Songoftheday 12/5/17 - I was at the crib sittin' by the fireplace drinkin' cocoa on the bear skin rug, The door bell rang who could it be? thought to myself then started to shrug...

"Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." - C + C Music Factory featuring Freedom Williams
from the album Gonna Make You Sweat (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #4 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's song of the day comes from the dance music act C + C Music Factory, who took over mainstream pop radio with their club classic "Gonna Make You Sweat" which topped the American charts in the winter of 1990, followed by "Here We Go" which reached the top five. The third single from their debut album, "Things That Make You Go Hmmmm...", was a funky and comic story-song which was a takeoff on a bit on the late night Arsenio Hall show. With rap verses from Freedom Williams describing different scenarios that play out in laughable ways over a groove written by Robert Clivilles and David Cole, the track not only dominated the club, but became another pop radio triumph...

"Things That Make You Go Hmmmm..." became C+C Music Factory's third and last top ten pop hit in the U.S. in September of 1991. The song also crossed over to Billboard's R&B chart at #31, while the remixes on the 12" vinyl/CD single helped it top the Dance Club Play list for two weeks. Internationally, the record hit the top ten in New Zealand (#2), the UK (#4), Australia (#6), Ireland (#9), and Finland (#10), and made the top-20 in Canada (#14), Sweden (#14), Switzerland (#15), and the Netherlands (#19).

A fourth single from the Gonna Make You Sweat album, "Just A Touch Of Love", featured Zelma Davis on lead vocals, and while it became their fourth straight #1 dance hit, it stopped short of the pop top-40 at #50.
