Songoftheday 12/8/17 - So you say that you can't go on love left you cryin', and you say all your hope is gone and what's the use in tryin'?

"Time, Love And Tenderness" - Michael Bolton
from the album Time, Love And Tenderness (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #7 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's song of the day comes from singer/songwriter Michael Bolton, who had landed another top ten pop hit with the first single from his seventh studio album, "Love Is A Wonderful Thing". However, he was eventually sued for credit from the Isley Brothers for copying their same-titled song too closely, which took years to litigate. In the meantime, though, he quickly issued a second single, the title track from the album, "Time, Love And Tenderness". Written solely by "song doctor" supreme Diane Warren, the mid-tempo inspirational song continued his streak of success with middle of the road pop/rock music for the ladies. Although he (or his watchers) were clearly trying to play him up as an everyday guy in this video, filled with basketball and rock band rehearsals....

"Time, Love And Tenderness" became Michael's fifth top ten pop hit in the U.S. in September of 1991. The record also landed Bolton his fourth #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, staying there for two weeks. Internationally, the record peaked at #4 in Canada, and reached the top-40 in Sweden (#27) and the UK (#28).
