Songoftheday 9/1/16 - Certain things ya do really make me mad I must confess, the way the street light sihlouettes your thighs inside your dress...
"Down Boys" - Warrant
from the album Dirty Rotten Stinking Rich (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #27 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6
Today's song of the day comes from the glam-metal band Warrant, who came together in Hollywood in the mid-80s under guitarist Erik Turner, and settled in when they hired on singer Jani Lane. After opening for various metal bands, the group recorded their debut album in 1988, to be released at the beginning of the following year. The first single from the set was the uptempo rock fist-pumper "Down Boys". Written by Lane and with a little help from hired-hand guitarist Mike Slamer and producer/keyboardist Beau Hill, the catchy song caught radio's ear straight off.
"Down Boys" became Warrant's first hit, reaching the pop top-40 in July of 1989. The song also climbed to #13 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the track spent a week at #50 on the singles chart in New Zealand.
