Songoftheday 9/15/16 - Morning came and I was on my way when you reminded me, I had too soon forgotten it was you that set me free...

"Headed For A Heartbreak" - Winger
from the album Winger (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #19 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's song of the day comes from the glam-metal band Winger, who, led by criminally handsome namesake Kip Winger flew into the pop top-40 with their criminally suggestive single "Seventeen" in the spring of 1989. Their follow-up to that success was the more restrained power-ballad "Headed For A Heartbreak". Written by Kip, who also sings lead, it served its purpose in getting radio on-board, even though it could be mistake to be a rip of Def Leppard's "Bringing On The Heartbreak", if done by Bon Jovi, the result was a more nuanced, adult "metal" classic...

"Headed For A Heartbreak" became Winger's second top-40 pop hit in August of 1989. The song also landed the guys their first to reach the top ten on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart at #8.

A fourth single from their debut album, "Hungry", was a minor pop hit at #85 but did climb to #34 on the rock list...

Here's the band performing the song on Arsenio Hall...

Again on tour in 1991 (they were great live)...

...and lastly, we've got the boys with an orchestral backup in 2015...
