"Carrie" - Europe
from the album The Final Countdown (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #3 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12

Today's SOTD is by the Swedish glam-metal band Europe, who had won over American with their top-10 pop hit "The Final Countdown", then followed it with "Rock The Night". For their third American single they put out the power-ballad from the album, "Carrie", written by lead singer Joey Tempest with band keyboardist Mic Michaeli...

"Carrie" became Europe's biggest pop hit in the States, reaching the top-3 in October of 1987. The single also crossed over to both the Mainstream Rock (#35) and Adult Contemporary (#36) radio charts in Billboard magazine. Internationally, the song reached the top-10 in Canada, Ireland, and Switzerland, and #22 in the UK (it wasn't a single in their native Sweden).
