Songoftheday 8/24/15 - You met your match when you met me I know that you will disagree it's crazy, but opposites attract you'll see and I won't let you get away so easy...
(NOTE: this here is post number 5000 in my little corner of the interwebs. I want to thank you for taking time to read my little missives, and hopefully have had some fun along the way.)
"Causing A Commotion" - Madonnna
from the album Who's That Girl (Original Soundtrack) (1987)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 11
Today's Song of the Day comes from Madonna, whose forgettable foray into the movies with Who's That Girl had nonetheless scored her another #1 pop hit in the U.S. with the Latin-tinged title track. The second single from the album returned her to her dance-pop roots, though undermining the inspiration of the song being her tumultuous marriage to Sean Penn. "Causing A Commotion", written by Madge with Stephen Bray from the Breakfast Club, the track would've fit nicely on her debut, and still was a fun fit with the freestyle popular on radio in 1987...
"Causing A Commotion" spent three weeks in the runner-up spot on the American pop chart in October of 1987. The extended version went to #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart, and the song even popped into their adult contemporary (or "easy listening") chart at #37. Internationally, the record went to #2 in Canada, Ireland, and Belgium, and reached the top-10 in the UK, Australia, Italy, Switzerland, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.
