Songoftheday 2/5/15 - I was born in a cross-fire hurricane and I howled at my ma in the driving rain...

"Jumpin' Jack Flash" - Aretha Franklin
from the album Aretha (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's Song of the Day comes from the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who found a renaissance of her career with the help of producer Narada Michael Walden on her Who's Zoomin' Who album which spun off two top-10 pop hits with "Freeway Of Love" and the title track. She went back to Narada for her next album, Aretha, though the first single released from the set was a remake of a Rolling Stones classic produced by guitarist Keith Richards himself. "Jumpin' Jack Flash" got Aretha back into the pop top-40 in November of 1986. The single also crossed over to #20 on Billboard magazine's R&B chart, and #33 on their dance club play list. Internationally, the record went top-40 in Canada and Australia, and was a minor hit in Britain.

Besides the Stones and Aretha, blues-rock guitarist Edgar Winter had a #89 hit in 1971 with the song...
