Songoftheday 2/3/15 - I would do anything to hold on to you, that's just about anything until you pull through...

"Emotion In Motion" - Ric Ocasek
from the album This Side Of Paradise (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #15 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's Song of the Day comes from Boston new wave musician Ric Ocasek, who had led the band the Cars since 1978. After taking a break from the band after their Greatest Hits album, where they hit the top-10 (for what would be the last time) for "Tonight She Comes", Ric set out to record his second solo album This Side Of Paradise. The first single from the set, "Emotionn In Motion", was a much more subdued selection than his Cars work. Written by the artist and co-produced with Chris Hughes (Tears For Fears) and Ross Cullum, the song finally gave Ric a hit aside from the band...

"Emotion In Motion" became Ric's first (and so far only) solo top-40 in November of 1986, while going all the way to #1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. The track also crossed over to the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") chart at #8.

Ric's follow-up single, "True To You", also made the rock top-10, though it stalled on the pop chart at #75. Five years later, he released a third solo album, and came one rung from the rock top-10 with "Rockaway". Since then, along with a few reunions with the Cars, he's been more known for his production work with the likes of No Doubt and Weezer.

Up tomorrow: A Christian star heads to Chicago for a #1 hit.
