John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band - "Tough All Over"
from the album Tough All Over (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #22 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's Song of the Day is by the Rhode Island-based "barroom rock" group John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, who provided the Springsteen-esque music from the cult cable movie classic Eddie and the Cruisers, scoring two hits than climbed the chart two separate times each - the youth gone wild anthem of "On The Dark Side", and the sax-heavy love song "Tender Years". With this wide exposure, the band got to release their next album Tough All Over on their own terms, finally as a band not mimed by an actor. The title track, written by Cafferty, followed the same blueprint of the previous hits but updated the sound a tad to highlight the keyboard instead of the piano or sax...

"Tough All Over" became their third top-40 hit in July of 1985, while matching "On The Dark Side" by going all the way to #1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. It also managed to nick the top-40 in Canada at #37.
