Songoftheday 4/1/14 - A betting fool a gambling man, no sooner up you're down again...

Mick Jagger - "Lucky In Love"
from the album She's The Boss (1985)

Billboard Hot 100 peak: #38 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's Song of the Day is by Mick Jagger, who took a break from the Rolling Stones in 1984 to record his debut solo album, which already had scored a top-20 pop hit in America with "Just Another Night". For it's follow-up he had his track "Lucky In Love" remixed for radio play, and filmed another big-budget video for the song he co-wrote with Carlos Alomar (David Bowie's Let's Dance-era tour guitarist), though it's Jeff Beck that provides the axe work here...

"Lucky In Love" became Mick's second solo top-40 hit in the US in June of 1984, while also climbing as high as #5 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart, and #11 on the Dance Club Play chart. Overseas, the single only nicked the chart in his native Britain at #91, and just missed the top-40 in Germany at #44.

..and here's the extended version that almost made the top-10 on the dance chart...

Up tomorrow: the top-40 welcomes a superstar.
