Songoftheday 9/19/13 - I've seen your kind before I've seen you creepin' 'round, before you come 'round my door there's one thing you got to know...

Steve Perry - "She's Mine"
from the album Street Talk (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21 (two weeks)
Weeks in the top-40: 8

Today's song of the day is by Journey's lead singer Steve Perry, who released his first solo album in 1984 and immediately scored a top-10 pop hit with the anthemic "Oh Sherrie". For the follow-up single he went more nuanced with the moody intensity of "She's Mine". Written by Perry with songwriter Randy Goodrum, the single wasn't a bright cheery simple ditty for radio, but a really cool take on the "jealous lover" theme...

"She's Mine" became Steve's second solo top-40 hit in August of 1984, while also reaching #15 on the rock radio chart. It's one of those songs you forget was a hit but a really great record.

Up tomorrow: a Brazilian musical legend gives excuses.
