Songoftheday 9/1/13 - I saw you there just standing there And I thought I was only dreaming ...

Thompson Twins - "Doctor! Doctor!"
from the album Into The Gap (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #11 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's Song of the Day is by the new wave trio Thompson Twins, who had their biggest hit to date with the first single from their Into The Gap album "Hold Me Now". For the follow-up they went with the album open written by the band and produced by Alex Sadkin with lead singer Tom Bailey, "Doctor! Doctor!"....

"Doctor! Doctor!" became the Thompson Twins' third top-40 hit, though it peaked right under the big 10 at #11 in July of 1984. In their native Britain, the single did even better than "Hold Me Now", reaching #3 over there, while also making the top-20 on the American dance club play list in Billboard.

I recently went on a trip and re-listened to the Into The Gap album and re-appreciated how strong the whole album is front to back. If you're looking for a solid new-wave album I suggest picking this one up pronto.

In 2005 the dance act Plump DJs interpolated the record for their "Dr. Dub"...

...and here's the "Twins" appearing on Top of the Pops...

Up tomorrow: there isn't an escape for this converted Bay Area rock machine.
