Songoftheday 7/18/18 - You can't hide it from me admit it baby,. 'cause I'm wise to your disguise I've seen you love me with your eyes...

"Give It Up" - Wilson Phillips
from the album Shadows & Light (1992)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #30 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 3

Today's song of the day comes from the soft-pop trio Wilson Phillips, who had scored their sixth top-40 pop hit with the first single from their second album, "You Won't See Me Cry", in the summer if 1992. The second release from the record was the uptempo love song "Give It Up". Written by the threesome with producer Glen Phillips, the song sounds like an outtake from Amy Grant's Heart In Motion album for sure, especially with the "radio remix" on the single...

"Give It Up" became Wilson Phillips' seventh and so far final top-40 pop hit in September of 1992. Like its predecessor, the song did much better on "easy listening" radio, climbing to #12 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio chart. Internationally, the single also reached the top-40 in Canada (#16) and the UK (#36), and was a minor hit in Germany at #54.

A third track from the album, a message song for Carnie and Wendy's father Brian Wilson, "Flesh And Blood", was critically hailed, and climbed to #17 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, but only "bubbled under" the pop top-100 at #119. Chynna Phillips would depart soon after, releasing her first solo album Naked and Sacred in 1995. The title track was released as a single, and hit the top-40 in Australia at #15, but missed any of the American lists altogether (a crime, it was a true pop gem). It was followed by "I Live For You", which climbed to #9 in Australia. Meanwhile, Carnie and Wendy recorded a holiday album as a duo, and took "Hey Santa!" to #22 on the Adult Contemporary radio chart in 1994. They recorded an album with their father as well three years later. Carnie also had a long-running successful daytime talk show.

Chynna, Wendy, and Carnie reunited in 2004 for a new album, California. From it their remake of Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way" climbed to #13 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart. Two years later, they released another holiday set, Christmas In Harmony, with a cover of Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" peaking at #14.  In 2012, they again came together for their most recent album Dedicated, a collection of remakes, with their take on "Good Vibrations" scaling to #25 on the Adult Contemporary list. They continue to tour as well.
