Robbed hit of the week 1/2/18 - Corina's "Whispers"...
"Whispers" - Corina
from the album Corina (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #51
This week's "robbed hit" comes from Latin freestyle dance music singer Corina, who had scored a top ten pop hit in the summer of 1991 with "Temptation". The second single from the record, "Whispers", was written and arranged by Peter Zizzo, and was an even better concoction than the first, with its swirling synth-strings and a chorus that just wouldn't quit...
While "Whispers" sold pretty well, and was a big regional hit in the New York area, it stalled right under the halfway mark on the pop Hot 100 chart. It did spent 20 weeks on the chart, a remarkable feat for a song that didn't crack the top-50.
