Songoftheday 11/9/17 - Baby there's something I think you should know I don't think I'll be needing you anymore, it's just one of those things I'm sure you'll understand...

"Temptation" - Corina
from the album Corina (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 13

Today's song of the day comes from the "freestyle" dance-pop singer Corina (Ayala), a New York native that got her first success with the club hit "Give Me Back My Heart", a 12" single that went to #26 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart in 1988. Three years later, she released her self-titled debut album, and the first single from the record, "Temptation", was embraced by mainstream radio. Written by Corina with producer Carlos Berrios, it became her biggest hit and one of the most popular dance radio songs of that summer...

"Temptation" climbed into the American pop top ten in August of 1991, her sole top-40 hit. The song also went to #22 on Billboard's Dance Club Play list (her highest-charting single there). A second single from the album, "Whispers", was a big hit in the New York area, but nationally stalled at #51 on the pop chart. A third track from Corina, "Now That You're Gone", missed the Hot 100 but climbed to #72 on the Pop Airplay tally.

In 1997, Corina returned with the song "Summertime Summertime" from the So So Def All-stars compilation and reached #86 on the pop chart, #28 on the Dance Club list, and was her sole crossover to the R&B chart at #64. Since then she's performed in freestyle retro concerts and acted in movies like Tim Robbins' Cradle Will Rock.
