Songoftheday 10/3/17 - Until the rivers run dry like a stain from a child's cry, until the snow brings fall my love will wait to hear your call...

"Temple Of Love" - Harriet
from the album Woman To Man (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 1

Today's song of the day comes from British singer Harriet Roberts, who came from Sheffield, England, with a deep, soulful voice that shone through on her criminally overlooked debut album Woman To Man. The biggest single from the record, "Temple Of Love", was a big R&B hit in the U.S. that crossed over to pop radio, fitting in quite nicely with the hits of Basia, Lisa Stansfield, and Tara Kemp...

"Temple Of Love" became Harriet's sole pop hit, reaching the top-40 in America in April of 1991. The single also climbed to #14 on Billboard's R&B chart, while also crossing over to their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio list at #24. In her native Britain, she spent one week on the chart at #100. That same year, Harriet appeared at the San Remo song festival, performing "All That We Are". She never reached the chart again, though she had more success writing, including a British top-40 hit for Tina Turner with "Whatever You Need" which hit #27 in 2000, and a top ten club hit for Taylor Dayne with "How Many", which peaked at #6 in 2002. Most recently she was a vocal coach.

Although the club remix of the song never hit the dance chart, it was one of my favorite bangers of that year...

Up tomorrow: A superstar's could've been record-breaker hit about the way things were going.
