Robbed hit of the week 10/30/17 - B Angie B's "I Don't Want To Lose Your Love"...
"I Don't Want To Lose Your Love" - B Angie B
from the album B Angie B (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #54
This week's "robbed hit" comes from R&B/dance singer B Angie B, who was a part of MC Hammer's Bust It label posse, where she landed her first success as a featured artist on rap duo One Cause One Effect's minor R&B hit "Midnite Lover" in the winter of 1991. She also sang backup on Hammer's album, before releasing her debut record that same year. The first single was a cover of a disco nugget from the Emotions from 1976, "I Don't Want To Lose Your Love". The original reached #51 on the pop chart and #13 on the R&B list in Billboard...
B Angie B's version kept the brassy production and punched it up a few notches to compete with the frenetic energy of house and rave currently dominating the clubs...
While B Angie B's take on "I Don't Want To Lose Your Love" climbed all the way to #2 on Billboard's R&B chart, it stalled in the lower half of the pop Hot 100 in May of 1991. A follow-up single, "So Much Love", was slower-paced jam with gospel undertones, and though it made it to #3 on the R&B chart, it missed the Hot 100 altogether. She then released a cover of Chaka Khan's "Sweet Thang", which peaked at #52 R&B. In 1995 Angie re-emerged as just Angie B with a new single, "It's My Life", that went to #74 on the R&B list, her latest appearance. She's come out with new music, but this single remains her biggest success.
