Robbed hit of the week 9/4/17 - Deee-Lite's "Power Of Love"...

"Power Of Love" - Deee-Lite
from the album World Clique (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #47

This week's "robbed hit" comes from the vivacious dance music trio Deee-Lite, who had landed themselves a top 5 pop hit in America with one of the best club records of the 1990's "Groove Is In The Heart", in the fall of 1990. That sample-heavy party classic was followed by the more straight-on house music jam "Power Of Love". Written by the act's lead singer Lady Miss Kier, DJ Dmitry and Towa Tei, the song was an instant hit in the gay dance clubs where they started...

Although "Power Of Love" spent two weeks at #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart, the single stopped short of the pop top-40 in America in February of 1991. (Some say Madonna's similar-sounding "Rescue Me" which was rush-released at around the same time stole its thunder.) It did manage to cross over to become a minor R&B hit at #54. Internationally, the track did get into the top-40 in Britain (#25), Ireland (#21), and New Zealand. Before calling it quits, Deee-Lite racked up another seven club hits, with four of them reaching #1.
