Songoftheday 6/30/17 - I got your letter from the postman just the other day, and so I decided to write you this song...
"Because I Love You (The Postman Song)" - Stevie B
from the album Love & Emotion (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (four weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 16
Today's song of the day comes from Stevie B, who was the "king" of Latin freestyle dance music, writing and producing many of the genre, and scoring four top-40 pop hits, including the title track from his 1990 album Love & Emotion in the fall of 1990. The second single from the set would not only end up being his biggest hit, but the biggest pop hit of the whole year itself. "Because I Love You", subtitled "The Postman Song", was a love ballad that featured only Stevie's voice and keyboards, with only a trace of fake hi-hat for percussion...
"Because I Love You" spent a month (four weeks) on top of Billboard's Hot 100 pop chart in December of 1990. The song also went to #1 for two weeks on their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the record was a huge success, reaching the top ten in the Netherlands (#3), Sweden (#4), Norway (#4), the UK (#6), Canada (#7), Ireland (#7), France (#8), Germany (#9), and New Zealand (#9).

Here's Stevie performing the song live on Rick Dees' late night show in 1990...
In 1999, German singer Ray Horton (formerly a member of the "Real Milli Vanilli" troupe), went to #25 in Germany with a cover of the song...
Another act from Germany, Eurodance duo Groove Coverage, had a minor hit in the country with a sped-up version of the song in 2007 (#72)...
Finally, we go back to Stevie from a live appearance in 2014...
Up tomorrow: Harmonious trio gets a bit rash.
