Story of the Day: Demented justice...

The culmination of the wackado Republi-Christo-Fascist right wing drumbeat was heard in the murder of Dr. George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas yesterday. Dr. Tiller had drawn the crosshairs of militant groups such as Operation Rescue becuase of being one of the few doctors who would perform what is called late-term abortions, meaning abortions done later in pregnancy, which in opinions vary between the 12th and the 27th week (disputed in the Journal of American Medical Association as to how it is defined). In some states, the Roe v. Wade decision is restricted to the "life or health of the mother", though there admittedly are those who had gotten an abortion for more personal than therapeutic reasons. However, that choice is, as it should be, a decision between the pregnant woman counseled by a medical staff. Personally, I would never counsel to choose to have an abortion on a reason other than the health of the mother or the child. But that's NOT my decision. Anyone claiming that a woman uses this traumatic and regretful step as a "mulligan" has absolutely no idea what they're talking about. Unless you've been put in that position, you have no right to prejudge the intent and morals of that woman.

Now if you're passionate about the fact that abortion is murder, and crazy enough to believe that one would be carrying out the "will" of their movement, tragic events like the death of Dr. Tiller in his own church seem unavoidable. The fact that enablers like Bill O'Reilly and Randall Terry hide behind these savages to propel their power and agenda without the course of law is frightening. Imagine anything else they would disagree with, to get a minion to do your dirty work. Remember, as awful as these procedures may be to you, they are STILL LEGAL. And with all these "baby-killer" goings-on, you don't see these wingnuts attacking the mother of the child. You know why? #1) most of them don't think a woman can make a rational decision, and #2) they know if they killed a woman who got an abortion their "movement" would be fucking toast.

I'm surely afraid that this lunatic won't be the last. I certainly hope that the next crazy gets caught in time.
