Story of the day...How many Evita jokes can we make now?

Image
So last time I posted, I forecasted that the "Appalachian Trail" story of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford was a crock of shit. How'd that turn out? Well, after being ca ught at the Atlanta airport coming back from Argentina, Sanford held a press conference today to admit to having an affair with a woman from Buenos Aires. He claims to have gone there to break it off, and to reconcile with the wifey. Bull fucking shit. There's definitely more to this story to come, but in the meantime, the Governor of a state runs off with no notice and no word to his Lt. Governor that he's going, and everything's ok cuz he's going through a hard time? Fire the dick. NOW. Not for the affair (that's for his wife to rip his balls off for), but for his taking the responsibilities of a political executive (and presumably one with White House aspirations) and took a giant crap on them. Classy. Say Sanford (and any other Republican), what's that you say about gay m

Story of the day.....Have you seen this douchebag?

Well, apparently South Carolina governor Mark Sanford, last seen belligerently trying to refuse what part of the economic stimulus program doesn't please him, is on the lam . While the Lt. Governor's office claims that he's ok and that he's supposedly unwinding from a legislative session (that doesn't seem to be quite over, but I may be wrong), how seriously can we take a governor of a state disappearing since last Thursday without letting at least his own office know where he is. Of course his wife offers up the classic GOP non-explanation... First lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press earlier Monday her husband has been gone for several days and she did not know where. She said she was not concerned. What the fuck is that ? She doesn't know where he is and she's not concerned? Either she's lying to cover or lying scared of what he'll do. Either way is crazy-ass crazy. The local SC Democratic Party leader in the Senate, John Land, issued a

Tonight's DSS is by German singer Cassandra Steen , who formerly was in the band Glashaus. Steen teams up with Adel Tawil, who is half of the rock duo Ich + Ich , for her second German top-10 single. It's a cool Kraut version of Evanescence-like goth-pop. Here's "Stadt" ("City")... You can see the official video (non-embeddable) here . You can get the import of Cassandra Steen's album Darum Leben Wir at Amazon.com here .

Photos that rock! Lava rock!

Image
The photo above was taken from the International Space Station, and it's of an erupting volcano in the Kuril Islands between Russia and Japan. The blast cleared away the surrounding clouds as it pushed the atmosphere upward. The photo also shows a ground-hugging plume of light gray ash, probably a mix of hot gas and ash in what volcanologists call a pyroclastic flow , descending from the volcano summit. Pyroclastic flows — deadly to anything or anyone in their paths — are known to be up to 600 degrees and rush across the land at 130 mph. Holy shit. There's a better image of the photo at livescience here . The "bubble" is made by steam. Totally awesome.

Distant Shores Song for the night - everyone in Iceland IS like Bjork!

Image
Tonight's header for the DSS is a joke, though it is a fine line, as Icelandic singer Emiliana Torrini did fill in for Bjork on the soundtrack to Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers . Torrini also co-wrote the seductive "Slow" for Kylie Minogue. Her newest single is "Jungle Drum", and it does channel the swan-dressing songbird's breathy, childlike delivery. It's made #1 in her home country as well as Belgium, and top-10 in Finland and Austria, and top-20 in Switzerland. The video also reminds me of Bjork's nature-based "Human Behavior" video. You can pick up "Jungle Drum" through Amazon's mp3 store by clicking here or on I-Tunes.

DSS for the night...June showers bring nothing but wet...

Tonight's DSS is by Canadian band Billy Talent, who have built a good following in Europe, specifically Germany and Austria, where their new single "Rusted From The Rain" becomes their third top-40 single. Not bad. The group had a minor US alternative rock hit with "Try Honesty". The new one fits in well with their post-grunge style. and here they are live from Germany (where else can you hear "Are you ready for Limp Bizkit?)... You can pre-order the single for "Rusted From The Rain" , coming June 30, at Amazon by clicking here . Their forthcoming album, Billy Talent III , comes in July.

Hey guys, it's time for my tunes for the week. This week Theory Of A Deadman spend a third week on top, while country act Lady Antebellum (pictured above) hangs on tight in the top-10. The biggest moves are made by Katy Perry, Daughtry, and David Guetta, while former big hits by the Plain White T's, Natasha Bedingfield, and Carrie Underwood drop off. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can link from here to any of the artists below by clicking on their highlighted name. It's a great way to get to know more about what they're about, and it's worth the time it takes to put the links in. Now as for the rain, am I in friggin' Seattle? Distant Shores Song for the night - Erin go bratwurst....

Tonight's DSS is from German-based rock band Reamonn , fronted by Irishman Rea Garvey. Garvey, born in Tralee , a town in southwestern Ireland, moved to Germany and recruited the other members. The band had opened for Barack Obama's big speech in Germany during the presidential campaign, where he became an "honorary member" . Also Garvey sang on a former twostepcubchart top-40 hit , Paul Van Dyk 's "Let Go". Here's the third single from their Reamonn album to make the German chart, "Moments Like This"... Since Reamonn record in English, it's easier to find their work in the states. The Reamonn album is available at Zune and I-Tunes, and also at Amazon.com by clicking here . You can also check them out on MySpace and Facebook . and for an added bonus here's the clip for Paul Van Dyk 's "Let Go".. quite different, eh? Let Go @ Yahoo! Video

It seems so odd that the times where there's so much to talk about, my mind draws a blank trying to blog. Maybe it's my obsession with following the news (and other greater bloggers than myself) that sometimes my brain goes into overload. The astonishing course of events in Iran are escalating day by day , with a sense of urgency not seen since the Tienamen Square protests in China. However, it does seem like the growing numbers throughout the country will not simply be stopped by a police force that is already disheveled. While this is happening, the Obama administration has been scrambling to tackle health care with a mixed message, where between people like Sec. Sebelius hinting at a public option, while porked shills l ike Tom Daschle are pressing for nothing of the sort (thank GOD that fucktard had to drop out). It's scary to know that after starting out strong they may be pussying out claiming that the "public" isn't for it, while poll after poll stat

story of the day - wingnuts gone wild...

Image
The string of right-wing terror sadly continued with the shooting death of a guard during a mad ambush by a sole white supremacist nut at the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. Stephen Johns valiantly gave his life protecting the public from a sick man who stormed the museum, and I offer my sincere condolences to the family of the victim. Museums and churches are supposed to be the havens from whatever disputes men and women may have with each other. Between this attack and the vicious murder of women's care Dr. Tiller , it proves these right-wing psychopaths, urged on by the hateful words of those like Glenn Beck and Bill O'Reilly, are trying to start their little own war of armageddon . Lord help us.

Today's DSS is by British singer Victoria Hesketh, who goes by the moniker Little Boots , and her electropop hit "New In Town", which is from her debut album Hands . For those of you into the alternapop like they play on the Logo Channel, this one's up your alley. You can pick up a copy of Little Boots' single on MP3 at Amazon by clicking here or go to MySpace page here .

story of the day....most expensive vacation ever

Image
Because Washington (and misinformed by the media, Americans themselves) are too big of pussies to have any prisoners from Guantanamo brought to the United States, whether or not in SuperMax prisons or whatever, we now will have to shell out 200,000,000$ to the country of Palau to take in 17 people who were found innocent of all crimes and are from the hunted group of Chinese Muslims called Uighurs . The Uighur community in Virginia even offered to take them in, but yes, its better to ship off these guys and spend 200 Million we don't have for men unjustly imprisoned because some suburban housewife is gonna wet her pants otherwise. Good job, guys. As Rachel Maddow said, can I take one in for the fraction of the 200 million?

Distant Shores song for the night...girl-group crime!

Image
Tonights DSS is by German act Queensberry , which was formed from singers from the talent contest Popstars . Their new single is their biggest so far in their home country , making the top-5 in its first week, as well as making the top-20 in Austria . The clip features a Bonnie & Clyde pastiche. Here's "Too Young"... Right now the only place I see "Too Young" on sale is at Amazon Germany, here's the link - they also have mp3 downloads at British Amazon here but I'm unsure if it'll work out of Europe. Oh, it's on E-Bay here .

story of the day....health care circus....

Image
Somehow the Democratic party, even though having a majority in Congress and a President clearly elected for a forwarding-thinking agenda, has been caught totally bewildered in a consistent approach to the contentious (made so by the media and Republicans) issue of health care. Even though a plan has not been released by the administration yet , mere speculation has been sending people into a tizzy , with notions of socialization of health care and freedom of one's choice in medicine. As regards to socialization, what is the difference between that and the government subsidy of farms? I don't see much of that being complained about, or is it just because that's about red-staters getting free money? And in my opinion, why can't health care be socialized? Since we're doing so dismally now, and people who cannot afford health insurance (or get it through their employer) mostly get sicker until they show up at the hospital emergency room, and who pays for that? Us! Just

Quick DSS for the night. Swedish singer Agnes, with "Release Me". The song has hit the top-10 in Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and the UK, where it's at #3. It attempts cavalierly to turn my apparently foul mood today. Nothing like some diva dance music to put you to bed... You can pre-order the single at Amazon by clicking here ....

chaos in New York...

Image
Well it seems like the state senate of New York State is fucked up royally, as two Democratic state senators joined a cabalistic vote to replace Senator Malcolm Smithas majority leader. Two dickbags, Bronx fucker Pedro Espada and Queens indicted woman-attacker Hiram Monserrate, raised their hands to try to install Long Island pussy Dean Skelos as Senate leader, and change power to the Republicans (of course, being too stupid to realise they have to change their own party). The vote came after the session was adjourned, and already is disputed as to its validity . I hope their constituents realize how much these power-hungry assholes (Espada got his moment to be Senate president, something he would never get otherwise) have them in mind. And lurking in the back is anti-gay marriage fungi Ruben "I've got Jesus up my ass" Diaz possibly running the show. One source of contention among Democrats recently has been Mr. Smith’s support for same-sex marriage. Senator Rubén Díaz

story of the day....don't ask, don't overturn...

Image
The Supreme Court today stopped a constitutional challenge to the "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy, which allows the military to throw out gay and lesbian servicemen for no other action than being homosexual. Unfortunately, this is President Obama's worst performance so far, where as he had no problem standing ground on other issues, it seems as though the triangulators in his administration has spooked him too much into being a pussy. I'm looking at you, Rahm. He could easily stop the implementation of the policy until it's formally rescinded, but wouldn't that make all the widdle bittie closetcase crybabies sad!? As for the Armed Forces, fuck you all. If you don't want me, I really don't give a shit about you anymore. Sorry, but that's all I'm thinking right now.

Who said the Tonys aren't fun?

Last night's Tony Awards' shining moment - God telling them not ever to have Poison on singing Nothin' But A Good Time. Punishment - having Bret "Rock Of Syphilis, er, I mean Love" take himself out on a stage prop. Priceless.

Distant Shores song for the night...take on me...

Tonight's DSS is by Norweigan band a-ha , who captivated us in the 80's with top-40 songs like "The Sun Always Shines On TV" and the #1 "Take On Me". Well, their still around and going strong, even making the British top-10 three years ago. Their latest is called "Foot Of The Mountain", and it's a great atmospheric piece of pop-rock from a sorely underrated band... You can pre-order a-ha's forthcoming album, Foot of the Mountain , coming out June 30, by going to Amazon by clicking here .

Distant Shores song for the night...Caspian Jon Secada?

Tonight's DSS is another Eurovision nugget, and this time it's the entry from the Eurasian country of Azerbajian . "Always" is a duet between singers Aysel Teymurzadeh from Baku, in Azerbaijan itself, and Arash , Iranian-born but raised since age ten in Sweden. The song is a sort of Caspian Jon Secada shuffler, which is a good thing. It did enough to make third place in the Eurovision competition. Here's "Always".. You can pick up "Always" on the Eurovision compilation at Amazon here , or import the single from the UK site here .
