Songoftheday 2/7/18 - I'm so glad you're my girl I'll do anything for you, call you every night and give you flowers too...

"All 4 Love" - Color Me Badd
from the album CMB (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 25

Today's song of the day comes from the vocal group Color Me Badd, who had already scored two huge pop hits in 1991 with "I Wanna Sex You Up" and the #1 "I Adore Mi Amor".  The third single from their debut album CMB was the bouncy Jackson Five-style jam "All 4 Love". Written by the group's Bryan Abrams, Mark Calderon, Sam Watters, and Kevin Thornton with producer Howie Tee, the single, which sampled the single "Patch My Heart" by the Mad Lads that reached #41 on Billboard's R&B chart in 1966 (and gave Isaac Hayes sample writing credit), would follow their last single to the top of the pop chart...

"All 4 Love" became Color Me Badd's second and final #1 pop hit in January of 1992 (it would also be their last time in the pop top ten). Internationally, the single spent a week on top of the chart in New Zealand, and reached the top ten in the Netherlands (#3), the UK (#5), Belgium (#6), Ireland (#8), Canada (#8), and Australia (#9).

While "All 4 Love" missed the R&B chart altogether (?), the "B-side" of the vinyl single, "Color Me Badd", did manage to climb to #56 on that list at that same time...

And here's the group performing live on Arsenio Hall. Damn, can they dance when they sing (I'm lookin' at you, Justin!...)

Up tomorrow: Dance-pop singer eventually gets a top ten hit.
