Songoftheday 2/17/18 - What's the time seems it's already morning, I see the sky it's so beautiful and blue...

"Spending My Time" - Roxette
from the album Joyride (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #32 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song of the day comes from the Swedish pop duo Roxette, whose 1991 album Joyride had landed them a #1 hit with the title track and a #2 follow-up with the sublime "Fading Like A Flower (Everytime You Leave)". While their next release internationally in the summer of the year would be the rollicking country-pop of "The Big L.", which reached the top-40 all over Europe (#21 in the UK), the third single from the record in the U.S. would be the power ballad "Spending My Time".
Written by member Per Gessle with Mat Gersson and sung mostly by Marie Fredricksson, it was set up to be a successful hat trick like "Listen To Your Heart" and "It Must Have Been Love" were...

"Spending My Time" became the third American Top-40 hit from Joyride in January of 1992. (I truly believe it would've done much better but their record company was going through a consolidation as well as it being caught as Billboard was changing to a mostly-monitored chart.) The single also climbed to #20 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or easy listening) radio chart. Internationally, the single did much better, reaching the top ten in Canada (#9) and Germany (#9), and making the top-20 in Sweden (#11), Belgium (#11), Italy (#12), Austria (#16), Australia (#16), and Finland (#18). It peaked at #22 in the UK as well.
