"Every Heartbeat" - Amy Grant
from the album Heart In Motion (1991)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 15

Today's song of the day comes from Amy Grant, who parlayed her stature as one of the biggest music stars of Christian Contemporary Radio to the secular world and scoring a #1 pop hit with "Baby Baby" in the spring of 1991. At that time, another track from her Heart In Motion album, "Hope Set High", was promoted to religious stations and climbed to #1 on Billboard's Christian Songs chart. Amy's second single for mainstream radio was the bouncy adult-pop of "Every Heartbeat". Written by Grant with Wayne Kirkpatrick and Charlie Peacock, and produced by Brown Bannister, it was easy listening's version of a dance track for the radio, and the different mix from the album had people searching out the single...

"Every Heartbeat" became Amy's third top ten pop hit in August of 1991. The single also spent six weeks at #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the song peaked at #7 in Canada, and reached the top 40 in Australia (#17), Ireland (#22), the UK (#25), Sweden (#25), New Zealand (#27), and Germany (#37). In 2014, new remixes of the song caused it to enter the Dance Club Play chart, climbing to #13.
