Songoftheday 9/2/17 - Open the door and come in I'm so glad to see you my friend, I don't know how long it has been having those feelings again...
"You're In Love" - Wilson Phillips
from the album Wilson Phillips (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14
Today's song of the day comes from female vocal group Wilson Phillips, whose self-titled debut album had already scored three huge pop hits with "Impulsive" and the back-to-back #1 singles "Hold On" and "Release Me". The fourth release was another mid-tempo easy-pop track, "You're In Love". Written by the trio of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, Chynna Phillips, and their producer Glen Ballard, the lyrics seem so pinnacle early-90s, with the girls singing how happy they are that an ex-lover had found romance again. That type of combo of self-analysis and mental rationalism was tempered with their spotless harmonies and oh so earnest delivery. It's like a cheerful version of Adele's "Someone Like You"...
"You're In Love" became Wilson Phillips' third and so far last #1 pop hit in April of 1991. The song also spent a month atop Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart. Internationally, the record climbed as high as #3 in Canada, and reached the top 40 in Ireland (#24), New Zealand (#28), the UK (#29), Belgium (#31), and the Netherlands (#32). The song was nominated for a Grammy Award for Group/Duo Pop Vocal, which went to R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion".
