Songoftheday 6/12/17 - I had it all but I let it slip away, couldn't see that I treated you wrong...
"Love Takes Time" - Mariah Carey
from the album Mariah Carey (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (three weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 18
Today's song of the day is from Mariah Carey, who made her big debut in the music world with her month-long #1 smash hit "Vision Of Love" in the summer of 1990. Her follow-up single would be another ballad that showcased her stellar vocal range, "Love Takes Time". Written by Mariah with Ben Margulies, it was a late addition to her first album, but that choice paid back in truckloads. The lyrics gracefully detail getting over the regret of an ended love affair and the patience it requires to get through it...
"Love Takes Time" became Mariah's second #1 pop hit in the U.S. in November of 1990. The song also spent a week atop Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, as it also did crossing over to their R&B list. Internationally, the song went to #2 in Canada and #9 in New Zealand, and was a top-40 hit in Australia (#14), the Netherlands (#24), Belgium (#38), and in the UK (#37).
