Songoftheday 5/13/17 - Here she comes just like an angel seems like forever that she's been on my mind, nothing has changed she thinks I'm a waste of her time...

"(Can't Live Without Your) Love & Affection" - Nelson
from the album After The Rain (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's song of the day comes from the pop/rock band Nelson, named for the twin brothers who led the act, Gunnar and Matthew Nelson. The siblings were the sons of teen idol Ricky Nelson, who went from being one of the first young television stars to being one of the first to parlay it into a truly substantial career in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Their father tragically died in a plane crash in 1985, so he didn't get to see his kids grab a record deal and release their debut album in 1990. The first single from After The Rain was "(Can't Live Without Your) Love & Affection", a hook-filled slice of lite-metal that came just at the cusp of its popularity, with successes of Bon Jovi and the Outfield paving the way for hard rock songs to make it to mainstream radio as long as they didn't shake much up. Written by Matthew and Gunnar with producer Marc Tanner, they didn't need to ride anyone's coattails, though the twins with gorgeous long blond hair certainly helped quite a bit...

"Love And Affection" climbed all the way to #1 on the American pop chart in September of 1990. The single also made it to #20 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio list. Internationally, the song reached the top-20 in Canada (#11) and Australia (#20), and was a minor hit in the UK at #54.
