Songoftheday 2/4/15 - Love like a road that never ends, how it leads me back again to heartache I'll never understand...

"The Next Time I Fall" - Peter Cetera and Amy Grant
from the album Solitude/Solitaire (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)

Weeks in the Top-40: 15

Today's Song of the Day comes from former Chicago lead singer Peter Cetera, who scored a #1 pop hit off the bat after leaving the band with his song from Karate Kid II, "Glory Of Love". For his follow-up he enlisted the biggest female artist in Christian pop music, Amy Grant, who had scored her own taste of success with "Find A Way" in 1985. Their duet, "The Next Time I Fall", was written by Bobby Caldwell, who had a top-10 hit of his own with "What You Won't Do For Love", and Peter Gordon, who penned another top-10 duet from that year, "Friends And Lovers".//

"Next Time I Fall" climbed to #1 on the American pop chart in December of 1986, while spending two weeks atop Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio chart. That success set the stage for Amy's secular pop career which would take off at the start of the next decade.
