Paul Davis - "'65 Love Affair"
from the album Cool Night (1981)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #6 (two weeks)

Mississippi born Paul Davis came into the 80's touting the longest run on the Billboard pop chart at the time, with the ballad "I Go Crazy" (40 weeks). In 1982, he was able to top the peak of that hit with this fluffy, nostalgic number, which the record company had him change from "'55 Love Affair" to attract a younger audience. Yes, this kind of music still was tryin' to attract a young audience.

This album would be Davis' last pop effort, though he would tally up a couple #1 country hits in the 80's with Marie Osmond ("You're Still New To Me") and Tanya Tucker ("I Won't Take Less Than Your Love"). He survived a shooting in 1986, but succumbed to a heart attack in 2008 at age 60.

Tomorrow: "The Dude" has a Herculean task.
