Songoftheday 4/11/12 - and the days go by like a strand in the wind...

Stevie Nicks - "Edge Of Seventeen (Just Like The White-Winged Dove)"
from the album Bella Donna (1981)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #11 (two weeks)

How did this not make the Top 10? Nevertheless, Stevie Nicks' third single from her debut LP, "Edge Of Seventeen", has become her signature song, with the throbbing guitar riff by Waddy Wachtel instantly memorable to anyone listening to rock radio in the early 80s. Written around the time of the death of her uncle and influenced by the murder of John Lennon, the song was the perfect zenith of Nicks' dramatic delivery and Jimmy Iovine's darkly echoing production. In 1981 the song as an album track made the rock radio Top-5, and in 1982 even the live single B-side version made the rock top-30.

Since then, the song has been blasphemed most notably twice. First as the guitar riff being lifted for the Destiny Child #1 hit "Bootylicious" (apparently endorsed as Nicks appears in the video)...

But that has no comparison to the musical abortion that is Lindsay Lohan's cover on her A Little More Personal (Raw) CD..

That cannot be unseen.
