Today's song comes from actress and R&B singer Brandy, who returned to the Billboard magazine's Hot 100's top ten in the spring of 2002 with "What About Us?", the lead single from her Full Moon album. Brandy released the title track, written by producer Michael "Mike City" Flowers, as the follow-up. The lyrics lay out the story that Brandy is out at the club, and notices a hot guy out with friends that she's never seen before. It's all about the flirting and the hookup in this song, and it presents a whole different side of the singer, and she does a better job at it than the previous single. The Mike City production is lush but a little sterile, with a hint of a Japanese-style melody in the background. The music video tries to play the "yes, I'm seductive" card, though the payoff is quite innocent. Still, as trying to fit with the weird 2000s pop landscape, "Full Moon" accomplishes what it's set out to do as a product...

"Full Moon" became the second top-40 pop hit from the album in July of 2002, while peaking at #16 on the R&B Singles list. On the radio, the song went to #20 on the Mainstream Top-40 chart, #15 on the R&B/Hip-Hop airplay list, #31 on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel, and #11 on the dance-oriented Rhythmic format. Internationally, the single reached the top-40 in the United Kingdom (#15), France (#27), Italy (#33), Belgium (#33 Wallonia/#46 Flanders), and Ireland (#38).

A third single from Full Moon, "He Is", only was released in the U.S.. The ballad, written by Brandy with producer Warryn Campbell and songwriter Harold Lilly, climbed to #72 on Billboard"s R&B Singles chart. (It's my favorite of the three.)
