Songoftheday 6/5/23 - Had a nice little life a little boat a little beach, a little routine I liked a blue ocean view...

"Living And Living Well" - George Strait
from the album The Road Less Traveled (2001)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #27 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song comes from veteran country music artist George Strait, who claimed his fifth top-40 crossover hit on Billboard magazine's Hot 100 with the lead single from his twenty-first studio album The Road Less Travelled, "Run", at the close of 2001. His follow-up to that beautiful ballad was the uptempo track "Living And Living Well". Written by Tony Martin, Mark Nesler, and Tom Shapiro, the song flips the "if I only had the money" trope to have the man who has everything only finding what true happiness was when he falls in love. Mind you, for all we know, she loves him for all those material things, but maybe that's being a bit harsh. The production by Strait with Tony Brown is sunny country meant for the two-step dance floor, and Strait's relaxed voice glides the medicine down, as simple as the lyrics are.

"Living And Living Well" returned George to the top of Billboard's Country Songs chart for two weeks, and crossed over to the Hot 100 top-40 in June of 2023.

George and the album will be back to the series, with his biggest crossover yet.
