Songoftheday 7/12/16 - Dear I write you this letter to show you how much your love means to me, I wish we could be together I need you in my life oh can't you see...

"Sincerely Yours" - Sweet Sensation with Romeo J.D.
from the album Take It While It's Hot (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #14 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 8

Today's song of the day comes from the "Latin freestyle" dance music trio Sweet Sensation, who came together in New York in the mid-80s, with Betty Lebron being backed up by sisters Margie and Mari Fernandez. With their debut single "Hooked On You" making the pop chart at #64, and second radio hit "Take It While It's Hot" also doing well regionally, the latter became the title track for their debut album in 1988. A third release, "Never Let You Go", scored the group a #1 dance club hit, while also peaking at #58 on the pop list. However, in no short time, Mari booked on the trio, to be replaced by Sheila Vega (who got put on subsequent single/album covers from the set, even though it was Mari who sung on them). The fourth single from the group would be the one that landed their first big success nationally. "Sincerely Yours", written by Ricardo Pagan and Joseph Malloy, who as "Romeo J.D." was credited as a featured guest on the track. The Latin American touches (like the guitar and bongos) gave it a sound not too unlike Expose', who had trailblazed the genre on mainstream radio...

"Sincerely Yours" became Sweet Sensation's first top-40 pop hit in April of 1989. The 12" version also climbed to #30 on Billboard's Dance Club Play chart as well.
