Today's song of the day is by rock singer/songwriter John "Cougar" Mellencamp, whose 1987 album The Lonesome Jubilee had already spun off a pair of top-10 pop hits in America with "Paper In Fire" and "Cherry Bomb". The third release from the record was yet another reflective song about the state of life in the poverty-stricken heartland of his youth...
"Check It Out" climbed into the pop top-20 in April of 1988, while rising up to #3 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the song went to #12 in Canada, #18 in New Zealand, and #22 in Australia.
