This week's 'robbed hit' comes from Canadian pop singer/songwriter Dan Hill, who had returned to the top ten on the American pop charts in 1987 with "Can't We Try". He released another self-penned ballad as a follow-up, the more optimistic "Never Thought (That I Could Love)"...

While "Never Thought" went all the way to #2 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio chart, the same as "Can't We Try", the song stalled right under the American Top-40 at #43. It stayed on the chart longer than any other that missed the top-40 in 1988 - 20 weeks.
