twostepcub's music chart for August 26, 2011...
Hey everyone! Well I'm pretty late with this weeks top-100 tunes, but nothing like a bit of surgery to slow me down. This week Katy Perry spends a third week on top, while my girl Kylie Minogue (pictured above) makes the biggest leap inside the top-10. The biggest jumps are from songs by Gavin DeGraw, Colbie Caillat, and The Script, as former big hits by Maroon5, Death Cab For Cutie, Marsha Ambrosius, and Katy Perry drop off. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artists below to go to their official website for more info. Ready, Percoset, Go!

There are nine new songs on my list (highlighted in yellow), and here they are with a little background on the artists and links to their previous hits in orange...
The highest entry is by country star and Voice coach Blake Shelton, who follows up one of his biggest single successes ("Honey Bee"), which became his second top-20 all-genre US hit after his debut single "Austin". Here's "God Gave Me You" (there's been no official video yet, so here's a lyric clip)...
Reggae--punk-rock outfit 311 have scored two #1 modern rock hits with "Down" in 1996 and their remake of the Cure's "Love Song" for the 50 First Dates soundtrack in 2004. The guys are back with their ninth top-10 on that chart, "Sunset In July"...
Also coming back is retro-rocker Lenny Kravitz, who since 1989 has placed two records in the US top 10 ("It Ain't Over Til It's Over" and "Again") and two charttopping rock hits ("Are You Gonna Go My Way" and "Fly Away"). He is also one of those rare artists that hasn't put out a CD I didn't like as yet. Surprisingly his new work is understated (the first single "Come On Get it" barely dented the Rock sales chart), and I'll have to go take a deeper look. Here's the second single, "Stand"...
French/Portugese singer Lucenzo had a top-10 European hit (which also dented my chart) last year with the song "Vem Dancar Kuduro" with Big Ali, which represented the Kuduro music style popular in the (formerly Portuguese-run) southwestern African country of Angola. Now Lucenzo teams up with Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Don Omar, who has topped the Latin chart with "Angelito" and "Taboo" (a remake of the "Lambada" song which was the basis for Jennifer Lopez's "On The Floor" smash). The song is redone in Spanish and Portugusese and again made #1 Latin and #1 in Germany with "Danza Kuduro"...
Italian DJ Benny Benassi has been almost as busy as his French rival David Guetta these days. After having a #2 UK pop hit in 2003 with the robotic "Satisfaction", and two top-10 dance hits with "Illusion" and "Every Single Day", all with his cousin as the Benassi Bros., Benny broke out on his own and recently had a worldwide hit supporting Chris Brown on his first #1 dance hit "Beautiful People". He as back now as a lead artist with support from British adult-pop singer Gary Go, who two years ago placed a top-30 hit in the UK and also adult-top-40 radio with "Wonderful". Their collaboration is a top-20 UK single and a top-3 song on US dance radio. Here's "Cinema"...
Speaking of collaborations, Bad Meets Evil is the pairing of legendary rapper Enimem, who has had four #1 US pop hits (including "Lose Yourself" and "Love The Way You Lie") with not so famous Detroiter Royce Da 5'9", whose biggest hit was the lowercharting R&B track "You Can't Touch Me". The duo score a top-5 hit with support from singer Bruno Mars (of "Grenade" fame) for "Lighters"...
Next up is Russian-born ingenue Grace V., who American Idol's Randy Jackson mentors into her first top-20 dance hit, "When The Lights Go Down"...
After fronting funk brother group GAP band for over twenty years with classic hits like "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" and "Early In The Morning", Charlie Wilson left the group, and after supporting Snoop Dogg on the top-10 "Beautiful", he's been a powerhouse in adult R&B, with six #1 hits like "You Are". His latest proclaims he's the "Life Of The Party"...
The final debut is by X Factor UK contestant Cher Lloyd, who wowed Simon and the crew with her version of "Turn My Swag On". She went on to place just fourth in that season, but she does make up for it by having a #1 hit, something only winner Matt Cardle acheived. Here she is getting her "Oh My Darling Clementine" on in "Swagger Jagger" (guess she likes the swag)...
and as a bonus, here's the song that after one week on my list finally jumps back in, French DJ David Guetta with Taio Cruz and Ludacris on "Little Bad Girl"...
