twostepcub's music chart for August 19, 2011...

Well hello folks, what a week. Between the strike and a pending hernia operation, I'm too busy for my own damn good. Well time to stop for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week Katy Perry spends a second week at the top, while the Foo Fighters (pictured above) jump into the top-10 to match their previous ranking. Previous big hits by Lady GaGa and Pink drop off my list, while tracks by Rihanna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Alex Gaudino make the biggest moves (jumps of 10+ places highlighted in red). Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artists names to go to their website (right-click, and you can use a new window). Next week, I'll have been sawed open...

This week nine new songs (highlighted in yellow) and one big re-entry come onto my list. Here they are, with a little about the artists and links (in orange) to previous videos. And away we go...

The highest debut is by Irish rock group the Script, who by now are the masters of the slow burn, with two big hits ("Breakeven" and "For The First Time") that would not go away. Their latest is off to a faster start on Adult pop radio, and it's "Nothing"...

Next up is the dancing septuagenarian Yoko Ono, who in the last eight years has scored ten top-5 dance club hits, including eight #1s like "Walking On Thin Ice" and "Give Me Something". Her 11th is a remix of a track from her 1995 CD Rising. The original version featured the band IMA, which son Sean Lennon was a member. Here's "Talking To The Universe"...

Punk-gone-pop band Blink-182 are preparing their first CD after a break of seven years. After seeing two of their songs, "All The Small Things" and "I Miss You" make #1 on the modern rock chart, they are climbing again with "Up All Night"...

Husband and wife duo Thompson Square took their first top-40 country hit all the way to #1 with "Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not". As a followup, the pair channel Sonny and Cher on "I Got You"...

The British juggernaut of the X Factor is hitting the states this fall, and the UK fifth series runners-up JLS prove that even not winning can create a windfall, garnering them five #1 hits in their homeland, including "Beat Again" and "Love You More". Their latest charttopper has support from American prodigy Dev, who took supporting role on two US top-40 hits, Far East Movement's #1 smash "Like A G6" and the New Boyz' "Backseat". Together they top the British chart with "She Makes Me Wanna"...

Dance and cabaret singer Matt Zarley has charted two previous hits on the club chart with a remake of Steve Winwood's "While You See A Chance" and "Where Did You Come From". He now has his biggest hit with a track that just missed the dance top-20. It's a party track with a really cool video, here's "WTF"...

German newcomer Tim Bendzko debuts with his first homegrown hit, which loosely translates to "Only Briefly to Save The World". Any idea? It's still really cool. Here's "Nur Noch Kurz Die Welt Retten"...

Asian reality-show concoction Blush get some push from Snoop Dogg for their first club hit "Undivided"...

The final debut is by bad boy rap artist Lil' Wayne, who after one #1 US hit as a lead artist on "Lollipop", and one supporting Jay Sean on "Down", has a big hit now with his first 'singing' record, the way-autotuned "How To Love"....

And finally, coming back strong is Adele's former UK smash hit which is finally gaining traction in the States, "Somebody To Love"...

Peace out.
