twostepcub's music chart for August 6, 2010

Hey folks, it's time for my top tunes for the week. This week Katy and Snoop hold on for a fifth week, while my girl Kylie Minogue (pictured above) makes it into the top 5. Songs by Scissor Sisters, Eminem, and Enrique Iglesias make the biggest jumps, while former big hits by Stromae, Erika Jayne, Lady Gaga & Beyonce, Miranda Lambert, and Rise Against drop out. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on the highlighted name of any of the artists below to go to their website for more info or to hear or buy music from them. And we're off!

This week there are seven songs debuting on my list, and Hayley Williams, who has a top-40 hit now helping out B.o.B on "Airplanes", takes her band Paramore back with the ballad "The Only Exception"...

Next up is a song that's become this years worldwide novelty smash. Australian band Yolanda Be Cool and DJ DCup (what names!) team up and sample an old Italian song "Tu vuò fà l'americano" by Renato Carosone. That ditty already has been covered by the likes of Brian Setzer and Lou Bega (another novelty act), and now is conquering the world this year. Here's "We No Speak Americano" with its appropriate retro video...

Another DJ, Danger Mouse, famous for his "Grey Album" mashup of the Beatles and Jay-Z, as well as 1/2 of Gnarls Barkley, teams up with the lead singer of indie faves the Shins, James Mercer to become Broken Bells. Their 1st CD went top-10, and the first single is the trippy beats of "The High Road"....

Darius Rucker has come a long way to convince us that he's not "Hootie", though this week's "Cleveland Show" had Kanye riff on him. After 4 smash country singles from his last album, Darius previews his upcoming CD with the a propos "Come Back Song"...

Italian DJ Mario Fargetta plays by the name Get Far, and now scores a dance radio hit with "The Radio"....

There are some hunks on country radio now, but David Nail leads the pack by sure. Here's his latest, "Turning Home", but what's with the knitcap?

and the last debut is by British boyband JLS, who have their third British #1 song (and third song on my chart) with "The Club Is Alive", which interpolates the "Sound Of Music" song....

and as a bonus, two songs re-enter my chart. Lady Antebellum now have three songs on my top-100 as pop radio embraces the last single from their previous album. Here's the ultrafab "I Run To You"...

and finally, dance singer Matisse, formerly of sister act "Brit and Alex", comes back with the #1 dance radio hit "Better Than Her"...

G'nite all!
