Songoftheday 7/21/17 - The stars say you're my best lover matched up like sugar for a cake, they say our love could conquer anything...
"Just Another Dream" - Cathy Dennis
from the album Move To This (1990)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 12
Today's song of the day comes from British dance-pop singer/songwriter Cathy Dennis, who had made a splash already in America in the spring of 1990 as a featured singer on D-Mob's housetastic club jam "C'mon and Get My Love", which reached the top ten on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. That song was also included in Cathy's debut album Move To This later that year, along with two other tracks co-written and produced by D-Mob's "Dancin' Danny" Poku. One of those, "Just Another Dream", became the second single taken from the album. The original album version was a minor hit in her native UK at #93 in December of 1989. However a bubbly house music remix from Paul Simpson made radio and clubs fall in love with the record, finally giving Dennis her breakthrough hit single...
"Just Another Dream" became Dennis' second top ten pop hit in the U.S. in February of 1991. The single also spent six weeks on Billboard's R&B chart, peaking at #91, while the club remixes helped the song stay at #2 for three weeks on their Dance Club Play list. Internationally, the re-release of the US mix of the single went to #13 in Britain, while also landing in the top-40 in Australia (#14), Ireland (#17), Canada (#20), and New Zealand (#38).

Here's the original album version's video, before Cathy got her ginger bob haircut she's recognized for...
Next up, the 12" remix from Shep Pettibone that got it to the runner-up spot on the dance chart...
..and the harder-edged house of the "Dream Mix"...
Cathy performed the song at the Smash Hits Winners Party in the UK...
...and finally, Dennis appearing live on Rick Dees' Open All Night late night show, singing both "Just Another Dream" and "Touch Me", along with an interview where she came out about being harassed by Milli Vanilli on tour...
Up tomorrow: "Serious" drummer/singer is sticking in there sufficiently.
