Songoftheday 1/20/17 - Mercy don't think she's pretty no more, starin' at the stars through a backscreen door...

"Sometimes She Cries" - Warrant
from the album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich (1989)

Billboard Hot 100 peak: #20 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's song of the day comes from the glam metal band Warrant, whose debut album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich has spun off a top-40 pop hit with "Down Boys", followed by the power-ballad "Heaven" which peaked at #2 on the American Hot 100 singles chart. A third single, the uptempo "Big Talk", went to #30 on the rock radio chart and was a minor pop hit at #93. They slowed things down again for the fourth release, "Sometimes She Cries". Written by lead singer Jani Lane, the by-the-book power-ballad touched all the bases in the "girl getting done wrong" narrative, somehow naming the girl "Mercy"...

"Sometimes She Cries" became the third top-40 pop hit from DRFSR in March of 1990. The single also climbed to #11 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Up north, the track made it to #27 on the Canadian singles list.
