" Talk To Me " - Chico DeBarge from the album Chico DeBarge (1986) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #21 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 11 Today's Song of the Day comes from R&B singer Chico DeBarge , the younger sibling of the family vocal group who had already had their run of five top-40 pop hits before he released his own self-titled debut in 1986. The first single from the set, "Talk To Me", was a bouncy pop/dance track that sounded more like Janet Jackson than the smooth soul of DeBarge proper... "Talk To Me" became Chico's first and only top-40 pop hit in February of 1987. The single also climbed to #7 on the R&B chart in Billboard , and landed at #11 on its Dance Club Play chart as well. After a second album netted a top-20 hit with " Rainy Night ", problems with drug addiction that also plagued his siblings knocked him out of action as well, not releasing another album for about a decade. In 1999 he made it to #11...

" Will You Still Love Me? " - Chicago from the album Chicago 18 (1986) Billboard Hot 100 peak; #3 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 13 Today's Song of the Day comes from the veteran jazz-rock band Chicago , who by the 80s transformed themselves into a soft /pop hitmaking machine with the help of producer David Foster. Their 17th album had spun off two top-3 pop hits with "Hard Habit To Break" and " You're The Inspiration " and another two top-20 singles in "Stay The Night" and " Along Comes A Woman ".  However, in doing so, lead singer Peter Cetera decided to leave the band after that in 1985 for a solo career. The group hired Jason Scheff to replace Cetera as bassist and co-lead singer with existing member Bill Chaplin, and they released Chicago 18 in 1986. With a remade version of their classic 70s hit " 25 or 6 to 4 "  (which I quite liked) as the first single that somewhat underperformed at pop radio (it p...

" We're Ready " - Boston from the album Third Stage (1986) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #9 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 10 Today's Song of the Day comes from the arena rock band Boston , who came back on full engines after an eight year break with their first #1 pop hit " Amanda ". After that ballad did great business, their second single went back to their rock roots with "We're Ready". Written and produced by band leader and guitarist Tom Scholz and vocals from Brad Delp, the single focused on their harmonies and subtle guitar hooks to recreate the "Boston sound" for the 80s audience... "We're Ready" became the second top-10 pop hit from Third Stage in February of 1987, while climbing to #2 on the Mainstream Rock radio chart in Billboard magazine. The single got a more moderate reception north of the border, peaking at #25 on Canada's singles chart. (Click below to see the rest of the post)

" Keep Your Hands To Yourself " - Georgia Satellites from the album Georgia Satellites (1986) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #2 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 14 Today's Song of the Day is by the southern rock band Georgia Satellites , who came together in the early 80s under lead singer Dan Baird, with a Stones-esque bare-bones bar-band rock sound and straight-forward and sometimes overly sexual lyrics. They released their self-titled debut album in 1986, and their first single, "Keep Your Hands To Yourself", sounded like a remake of something recorded in the early days of rock and roll. Written by Baird and produced by Jeff Gixman (who produced hit albums for arena rockers Kansas in the 70s), the song was a comic take on a guy pleading to "get some" to be shrugged off by his girl until he ties the knot... "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" went all the way to the runner-up position on the American pop chart in February of 1987, also do...
