Songoftheday 10/28/16 - I never dreamed I could cry so hard that ain't like a man, I could fly like a bird somedays had a place where I could land...

"Healing Hands" - Elton John
from the album Sleeping With The Past (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #13 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 9

Today's song of the day comes from Elton John, who was still going strong by the late 80's, scoring his highest-charting hit of the decade in the summer of 1988 with "I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That", followed by the top-20 pop hit "A Word In Spanish" (another track from the album, "Goodbye Marlon Brando", went to #22 on the rock radio chart as well). A year later Elton released his final studio album of the decade, Sleeping With The Past. The first single from the set was the mid-tempo adult-pop of "Healing Hands", written by Elton with longtime professional partner Bernie Taupin...

"Healing Hands" returned Elton to the American pop top-20 in October of 1989. The single also climbed all the way to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart (his eighth), and crossed over to their Mainstream Rock chart at #23 (his last solo rock hit so far). Internationally, the single went to #8 in Canada, #13 in Switzerland,  #14 in Australia, and #39 in Germany, but in his native Britain, the song initially stopped short of the top-40 at #45. When it was re-released in a combo with his next radio single, "Sacrifice", it (surprisingly) became Elton's first #1 hit in the UK.
