Songoftheday 8/1/16 - I'm not that kind of guy who can take a broken heart, so don't ever leave I don't want to see us part...

"I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" - New Kids On The Block
from the album Hangin' Tough (1988)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's song of the day comes from the Boston-bred "boy-band" New Kids On The Block, who were put together by producer Maurice Starr in the same fashion as his previous Beantown act, New Edition, and with their breakthrough second album Hangin' Tough, landed their first top ten hit with "Please Don't Go Girl" and then another with "You Got It (The Right Stuff)". The third single from the album went back to another ballad, this time Jordan Knight crooning on "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)". Written and produced by Starr, the lady-killer love song continued their upward trajectory...

"I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" became the first #1 pop hit for the New Kids in June of 1989. The single also crossed over to give them their biggest hit on both of Billboard's R&B (#12) and Adult Contemporary (#3) charts as well. Internationally, the record reached the top ten in Ireland (#2), Australia (#4), the UK (#5), and the Netherlands (#8), #21 in Canada, and #31 in Germany.

Fast forward 20 years...

Up tomorrow: A band from the Pennsy coal mine area sees their single dug up for a resuscitated top-10 hit.
