twostepcub's music chart for September 30, 2011...

Hey folks, it's time for my top-100 tunes for the week. This week the Foo Fighters claim the top spot, while the return of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (pictured above) bring themselves back to the top-10. Former big hits by Adele, Dierks Bentley, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, Wynter Gordon, and Jason Derulo drop off my list, while songs by Leona Lewis, Lady GaGa, and Kelly Clarkson make the biggest jumps (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red). Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artist's names to go to their websites for music, videos, tour dates, info and more. Bring it on down to Robbinsville!

There are a dozen new songs on my list this week (highlighted in yellow), and here they are, along with a little about the artists and links to their previous hits on YouTube in orange.

The highest entry this week is by the biggest musical export from Cuba, Gloria Estefan. In the late 80's, early 90's, Estefan (along with the Miami Sound Machine) scored three US #1 hits with "Anything For You" (still my fave song of hers), "Don't Wanna Lose You", and "Coming Out Of The Dark". After a break of eight years, Gloria is back with Little Miss Havana (sold only at Target right now), and her sixth #1 dance club hit, "Wepa"...

There are two debuts from record label Decaydance, run by Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz. The first is by pop/dance/rock outfit Cobra Starship, who had a US top-10 hit with "Good Girls Go Bad" in 2009. The band is back top-10 with supporting vocalist Sabi with "You Make Me Feel...", with a clip cameoing a homeless-looking Robin Williams...

The other Decaydance group is Gym Class Heroes, who are also celebrating their second US top-10 hit. GCH's came in 2006 with the Supertramp-cribbing "Cupid's Chokehold", and while their followups didn't really do well stateside, they placed two top-10 hits in England with "Clothes Off!" and "Cookie Jar". Last year lead Travie McCoy released a solo CD which gave him his biggest-known hit of all, "Billionaire". McCoy is back with his band and Maroon5 lead singer Adam Levine for "Stereo Hearts"....

Travie's "Billionaire" featured the debut of singer/songwriter Bruno Mars, who now is promoting the fourth single from his debut album Doo-Wops and Hooligans, which gave the singer two giant #1 hits with "Just The Way You Are" and "Grenade". His latest is my fave from the CD for its classic retro vibe and timeless melody that ensures being played and every wedding from now until eternity as well as a stint on Glee. Here's "Marry You"...

Country trio Lady Antebellum have five #1 singles to their name in the last two years, including the multiformat smash "Need You Now" which was one of the biggest hits of any genre in 2009-2010, as well as the currently-charting "Just A Kiss", which is also starting to crossover to pop radio. On their home format they are back with a song they also performed this past weekend on Saturday Night Live. Here's "We Owned The Night"...

Perry Farrell's Jane's Addiction was one of the seminal post-punk rock bands of the 90's, though one that was a little scattered. The group had two classic singles from their sophomore CD with "Stop" and "Been Caught Stealing" in 1990. After that came a tumultous period with Farrell dissolving JA to form Porno For Pyros, as well as coordinate the hugely successful Lolapalooza music festival. The group reformed in 2003 with a third #1 modern rock hit with "Just Because", and after eight more years Farrell is back with Dave Navarro (who in the meantime was a part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), with the first track from their upcoming CD, "Irresistible Force"...

Baltimore, Maryland-born rapper Rye Rye has her first success with some help from Swedish dance cult fave Robyn, who already sports a #1 hit from this year with "Call Your Girlfriend", and the two have another dance hit on their hands with "Never Will Be Mine"...

Jennifer Hudson's classic "Spotlight" was a highlight on last night's Glee, and "Effie" is back with the second single from her latest CD I Remember Me after "Where You At" with another R&B hit that's also burning the dancefloor, "No One Gonna Love You"...

Philadelphia native Musiq Soulchild's biggest success so far was from his second CD Juslisen, which produced two top-20 US pop hits with "halfcrazy" and "dontchange" in 2002. The alt-soul artist is back with a top-5 adult R&B ultra-smooth and inspirational "Yes"...

The next track is a collaboration between five artists. Taking lead is Los Angeles DJ Morgan Page, who was nominated for a Grammy in 2009 for his track "The Longest Road". He's had two more top-10 dance hits with "Fight For You" and "Call My Name", which coincidentally is the title of the first hit from Sultan and Ned Shepard who support him here. Also in the mix is US DJ BT, who being the biggest "name" here with 2 dance #1 in "Blue Skies" and "I Remember". Together the DJs provide backdrop for Scottish singer Angela McCluskey for "In The Air"...

British/Irish girl-group the Saturdays have now had ten top-10 UK hits including two #2 hits, "Forever Is Over" and their cover of Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough". Unfortunately their tenth didn't quite give them their first #1, but a top-3 finish ain't bad. Here's "All Fired Up"...

The last debut is by British singer Pixie Lott's debut CD Turn It Up boasts six UK top-10 singles, including the #1 tracks "Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)" and "Boys And Girls". She previews her upcoming work with another #1 song that beat out Leona Lewis and the Saturdays, and is the British airplay leader so far, "All About Tonight"...

Next up, the biggest songs of the year, 3/4 of the way in....
