twostepcub's music chart for October 7, 2011...

Happy Columbus Day weekend, everyone, and time for my top 100 tunes for the week. This week Adele make it to #1 on the second chart run of her classic single "Someone Like You", while Irish rockers the Script (pictured above), have a second top-10 hit for this year under their belt. The biggest jumps are made by singles by Dev, Kelly Clarkson, and Colbie Caillat (moves of 10+ places highlighted in red), while former big hits by Train, Alexandra Stan, Seether, and Bruno Mars drop off. Link-O-Rama is still in effect, so you can click on any of the highlighted artists' names to go to their website for biographies, videos, tour dates, music, and more. (Right-click, and you can use a separate window or tab.) Don't rock the boat!

This week there are seven new songs on my list (highlighted in yellow), and here they are, with a little about the artists and links to their previous successes in orange.

The first two entries share the same title, in different spellings. The highest is by South African rock band Seether, who just dropped off my list with their awesome hit "Country Song". That song was their third #1 mainstream rock hit after 2005's "Remedy" and 2007's "Fake It", which was allegedly about his former girlfriend Amy Lee of Evanescence, who had guested earlier on their biggest pop hit, "Broken". The band's latest is "Tonight"...

And now for the other "Tonite", this time by Italian DJ Nicola Fasano, who had a dance hit earlier this year with rapper Pitbull on "Oye Baby". He teams up with Dominican-American siren Kat Deluna, who brings two former #1 dance hits (the pop top-40 "Whine Up" and this year's "Dancing Tonight") to the table...

The reunited INXS dropped their former reality-show winner singer JD Fortune, and this past year released a remix CD featuring past hits with guest singers. Rob Thomas guested on "Original Sin", which hit #1 dance and my top-40. For the followup the band resurrects the second half of their hit "Need You Tonight/Mediate" with British dubstep artist Tricky, who has been a underground critic's darling, with his 1995 Maxinquaye album on a ton of best of all time lists. (It also has has "biggest" UK hit, the #12 "Hell Is Round The Corner".) His biggest success in the States is the minor Alt-rock hit "Evolution Revolution Love" with Live's Ed Kowalcyzk in 2001. Here's "Mediate"...

Next is Virginian indie-rock band Parachute, who have scored equal #14 adult pop hits with "She Is Love" in 2009 and this year's anthemic "Something To Believe In". Their latest is "Kiss Me Slowly" with an intro from co-writers Lady Antebellum...

Libyan singer Nadia Ali now calls Queens, NY her home, and after leaving group iiO (whose "Rapture" was a worldwide pop/dance smash) had a solo #1 dance club hit of her own with "Love Story" in 2009. This year she supported DJ Sultan and Ned Shepard on their top-5 dance club and airplay hit "Call My Name". Now Ali is back to star billing with DJ's Starkillers (who have remixed her previous work and had a minor dance hit with "Discoteka") and Alex Kenji on "Pressure"...

I can say I haven't seen a single airing of the American X Factor, even though I had always loved the British version. Call is my allegiance to Cheryl Cole/Dannii Minogue, who could never be replaced by the still-dopey Paula Abdul and overserious Nicole Scherzinger. Well, the third-place finisher on the 7th series of the show, One Direction, who only recorded before under the X-Factor Finalists' #1 "Heroes", but a year's downtime didn't lessen the demand for the boys, as their first single "What Makes You Beautiful" is their first English charttopper...

The final new entry is by British singer-songwriter James Morrison, who broke through in 2006 with the top-5 UK hit "You Give Me Something" which also was performed a couple years back on American Idol. Three years ago he returned with his biggest success, the worldwide seller duet with Nelly Furtado, "Broken Strings", which even made my top-10 list. Morrison is back with a song from his upcoming CD to be released here next Tuesday, and it's "I Won't Let You Go"...

In the next couple days, my top-100 of the year so far...will Bruno Mars still be on top, or will Adele, LMFAO, or someone else take over? Stay tuned...

Nite Nite, don't let the spiders bite!
