a sad passing....
Levi Stubbs (Bottom left) with the Four Tops
It's a sad day in music today, as the great Levi Stubbs, lead singer of the Four Tops, passed away at the age of 72. When I was a child I adored the Tops (and by no means were they the thing in the early to mid-1980's), and "Bernadette" is in the top-5 of my favorite songs of all time. In fact I considered "Reach Out, I'll Be There"/"Standing In The Shadows Of Love"/"Bernadette" the "holy trinity" of pop music. I carried their Anthology double-cassette in my Walkman with me everywhere, and their music has lifted my spirits and soothed my pain for decades. I regret not seeing them live.
