Songoftheday 1/4/17 - When I get high I get high on speed, top fuel funny car's a drug for me...

"Kickstart My Heart" - Mötley Crüe
from the album Dr. Feelgood (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #27 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's song of the day comes from the boisterous hard rock band Mötley Crüe, whose fifth album, Dr. Feelgood, had already sent its title track into the top 10 on the American pop chart in the fall of 1989. The second release from the set, "Kickstart My Heart", was a high-tempo rush of adrenaline that was a major concert crowdpleaser. Written by the band's bassist, Nikki Sixx, the track's music video again featured a cameo from comedian Sam Kinison...

"Kickstart My Heart" became the second top-40 pop hit from Dr. Feelgood in January of 1990. The single also climbed to #18 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock radio chart. Internationally, the single was a top-40 hit "Down Under" in Australia (#34) and New Zealand (#31). The record would give them a second consecutive nomination for a Grammy for Hard Rock Performance, but again they lost to Living Colour.

Here's the band live in 2005...

...and again from 2011, which was released to music video outlets...

In 2014, on the release of the country "tribute" album Nashville Outlaws, none other than soft-pop trio Rascal Flatts were the ones to open the record with a cover of the song, which sounds nothing like them (or MC, or, anything, really...)

...and lastly, the Crue on their final tour that same year...

Up tomorrow: The leggy soul singer fogs up the glass.
