Songoftheday 11/16/16 - You said you didn't need her you told her good-bye, you sacrificed a good love to satisfy your pride...

"Blame It On The Rain" - Milli Vanilli
from the album Girl You Know It's True (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's song of the day comes from the pop/dance act Milli Vanilli, who had been fooling the world with their lipsynching frontmen while racking up three huge singles in the process with "Girl You Know It's True" and the #1 hits "Baby Don't Forget My Number" and "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You". The fourth single from the Frank Farian-produced phenomenon would be "Blame It On The Rain", written by A-list "song doctor" Diane Warren. If it weren't for the scandalous way this was released and the true vocalists given their due, this pop nugget would be considered one of the classic songs of the year...

"Blame It On The Rain" became Milli Vanilli's third and what would be final #1 pop hit in the U.S. in November of 1989. The single also went to #14 on Billboard's R&B chart, and crossed over to #27 on their Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio list. Internationally, the song reached the top 10 in the Netherlands (#2), Canada (#3), Germany (#3), New Zealand (#3), Australia (#5), Sweden (#6), Belgium (#6), Spain (#8), and Austria (#8). Oddly, the track tanked in the UK, peaking at #52.

Up tomorrow: Cuban-American icon doesn't want you sitting down.
