Songoftheday 8/14/16 - Baby don't be shy when you're holding my hand, 'Cause as time goes by you got to understand it's you...

"Baby Don't Forget My Number" - Milli Vanilli
from the album Girl You Know It's True (1989)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #1 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 14

Today's song of the day comes from Milli Vanilli, the R&B/dance "duo" that ended up the most notorious act of the rock era by having two models front for studio singers. After reaching #2 with their breakthrough single "Girl You Know It's True", the Frank Farian-produced concoction released the lite-reggae soul of "Baby Dont Forget My Number". Written by the German producer with Houston singer Brad Howell (who truly sang on the track) along with Roger Dalton and Franz Reuter, at this innocent time no one knew the better, and the easy-going dance song was a big hit on the radio...

"Baby Don't Forget My Number" became Milli Vanilli's first #1 pop hit in the U.S. in July of 1989. The song also climbed to #9 on Billboard's R&B chart, while the 12" remix made it to #10 on their Dance Club Play chart (their last hit on that list). Internationally, the single reached the top ten in Canada (#3), Finland (#3), Spain (#3), the Netherlands (#7), Germany (#9), and New Zealand (#9).

and ironically, here's a clip of the "real" singers on the Milli Vanilli album, in concert in Mexico, but freakin' LIPSYNCHING anyway....
