While studying economics in college, Young met the future heads of his record label, Delicious Vinyl. There, he first got noticed for aiding in the production and writing of rapper Tone Loc's #1 Loc-ed After Dark album, most of all with the massive singles from the set, " Wild Thing " and "Funky Cold Medina". " Runnin' Down A Dream " - Tom Petty from the album Full Moon Fever (1989) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #23 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 7 Today's song of the day comes from southern rock singer/guitarist Tom Petty , who had a top-20 hit in the summer of 1989 with " I Won't Back Down ", the first single from his first nominally solo album Full Moon Fever . The second release from the album also featured Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, who also wrote and produced "Runnin' Down A Dream" with Petty and Jeff Lynne (of ELO). " Don't Look Back " - Fine Young Cannibals from the album The Raw & The Cooked (1988) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #11 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 8 Today's song of the day comes from the British new-wave trio Fine Young Cannibals, who landed back-to-back #1 pop hits in the U.S. with their first two singles from their second album, " She Drives Me Crazy " and " Good Thing ". The third single from the record was the uptempo track "Don't Look Back". Written by lead singer Roland Gift and David Steele, the song drew from the post-punk pop of bands like the Jam and Squeeze, with a wall of guitars anchoring the mix.... " Hey Ladies " - Beastie Boys from the album Paul's Boutique (1989) Billboard Hot 100 peak: #36 (one week) Weeks in the Top-40: 2 Today's song of the day comes from the Brooklyn-based rap trio Beastie Boys , who landed the first rap album to reach #1 on Billboard 's albums chart with the seminal Licensed To Ill , and hit the top 10 on the pop chart with " (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party) ".
